What makes us special?

1.Tailor made rides

For you and your companions, or even just 1 person, not a motley group

2. Authenticity

Your guides come from among the arrieros who live and work in the Cajon del Maipo. They enjoy showing you their country.

3. Good quality horses

Some of whom are corraleros, others quiet but sturdy mountain horses.

4. Efficient administration

Administration in native English, or Spanish.

5. ”Fair trade”.

After costs all money goes to local Chilean workers.

6. Environmentally friendly?

With horses as transport the only damage we do is light a fire for the barbecue – always with old dead wood that is lying around.

7. Consumer satisfaction (see also TripAdvisor reviews):

From Ellen Evans (day trip to the glacier in bad weather): ‘Truly the best day of my life’
From Lauren Fear (2 days, winter snow in El Toyo): ‘It was surreal’
From Aaron Kolpelowitz (5 days high Andes)The ride was one of the highlights of the last 10 years. The horses were wonderfully well cared for and it was apparent in their stature and gate. Rigo and Angelo were excellent guides. It was a pleasure to be able to ride at any pace at all times. The vistas and terrain were inspiring and significant. The night sky glowed with the white moon overhead and the southern hemisphere has stars i have never seen.

I do expect to be able to ride with Rigo again soon and look forward to it very much.”

From Tobias Megerle (1 day trip El Toyo) “Hi, thanks again for the very nice trip :-) ))… Okay, that’s it, I am going to recommend your company to friends, colleagues…”

From Luiz Fernando Saife Salemi (1 day trip El Toyo) : Our day at the mountains was just amazing. I can’t describe what I felt that day

From Kim, Daniel and 8 year-old Liam (4days ride in El Toyo, nights in Hostal)“We came for 2 nights and stayed 4 because we enjoyed ourselves so much”

From Derek Ong: (2 days hard riding in El Toyo) “I am on a business trip in Santiago, and had a weekend free. I decided to take a horse riding tour through the lower Andes near Santiago.
They organised transport from my hotel to the Cajon de Maipo, and put me on a horse which suited my abilities.
The guides were very experienced and went at a comfortable pace, allowing me to take pictures as we went along. I did two days of riding – I stayed in a local hostel overnight as it was too cold for the horses to be out camping in May.
The scenery of the Andes was magnificent. Parts of it look like the Grand Canyon in the US or Cañón del Sumidero in Mexico.

The best thing about this company is that they offer CUSTOMISED TOURS. I laid out what I wanted (higher altitudes, further distance etc.) and they managed to organise a tour at very short notice. They organise group tours and individual tours. They organise week-long tours with camping and one-day outings. They organise barbeques and other picnics up in the mountains for groups of family or friends.

The other great thing about this company is that it quickly responds to your questions and needs. It is run by a very organised English family who are very efficient at getting your personalised tour to run like clockwork.

If you like horses…:
The horses are very well-trained and less temperamental than ones that I have ridden in the UK. They are a tad smaller (about 14-15 hands, I reckon), but strong enough to keep going up steep slopes in hot weather, and they are very responsive as they are used also to corral cattle. You can get the horse easily into a trot or canter (if there is space) as the guides are quite willing to let you control the horse.

If you a re not sure about horses…:
The horses are very well-trained. I saw several groups of less experienced riders and they had a great time with the horses as the horses were very calm and moved at a comfortable pace. The guides have very good control over all the horses. I would certainly be comfortable with recommending these highly-disciplined horses to anyone. The best thing about horses is you can go much further and higher than if you hiked.

I have also done a horse-riding tour in the Southern Alps of New Zealand, and it wasn’t as much fun as this one. The guides in Chile are nicer, more relaxed; the horses have a better temperament; the weather is better; and and the scenery is more stunning.”
