Climbing the high Andes: arrieros born and bred in the area can take you and your baggage to base camp for mountaineering expeditions to climb Marmolejo, Volcan San Jose, Morado, el Diablo or others in this area round Bano Morales, near Santiago Chile
Arrieros, horsemen, who were born and have lived their whole lives in these mountains will take your baggage on horses and mules as far as your base camp. These mountains are not easy and need local people as guides and muleteers/horsemen. We have horses for passengers and mules for baggage, for hire by the day or longer.
The most popular destinations, from the village of Bano Morales, about 2 hours drive from Santiago, are the mountains of Marmolejo and Volcan San Jose or Refugio Plantar. We take equipment and mules and/or people to all the sought after mountaineering, climbing, bouldering and walking locations in this part of the central cordillera of the Andes.
The important message is to use arrieros, or horsemen/muleteers, of the area, who have worked here all their lives and know the safe routes, tracks and paths through these potentially dangerous mountains.
PRICES:
To a destination from 3200 metres upwards, 20.000 Chilean pesos per animal (approx £20 or 40 US dollars, 29 Euros) per day. (Marmolejo)
Up to 3199 metres, 15.000 Chilean pesos per animal per day (approx £15 or 30 USD, 22 Euros) (Volcan San Jose and Refugio Plantar)
